A hiking holiday in the Stoder Valley

The unique and breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the Stoder Valley seduces again and again not only the guests, but also the locals. The spectator is enchanted by the bizarre rock formations, which a vivid imagination transforms into magical creatures, by the cheerful and relaxing landscape with its lush green meadows and the brightly coloured floral carpets.

In this idyllic setting, everybody feels the urge to embark on an exciting journey of discovery and, for those who particularly enjoy being close to nature, it will be an extraordinary experience. This little paradise is populated with down-to-earth people, who have a friendly open mind and are keen to welcome visitors from all over the world. The Stockerwirt hotel is the ideal starting point for extended hiking trips and unforgettable climbing tours in the fascinating mountains of the Kalkalpen National Park and the no less attractive surroundings.

Over 200 kilometres of perfectly groomed hiking trails

Over 200 kilometres of perfectly groomed and signposted hiking trails between the Tote mountain range and the Warscheneck mountain group will satisfy your yearning for exploration. You don’t need to go on a high Alpine climbing tour to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. The picturesque landscape unfolds its special charm even on a relaxed walk or an easy hike. The various trails, which we gladly recommend to our guests, are as varied as the landscape.

A hiking tour on the high plateau of the Höss Mountain, which you can reach with the mountain railway, is as interesting as a long hike around the village, where you can admire the natural diversity of Alpine fauna and flora. Whether you prefer to be in the idyllic setting of the Alpine pastures or to enjoy nature in the valley is entirely up to you. Suitable hiking trails for every taste and ability are waiting for you. The well-developed hiking-trail network in the “Circular Hiking World” of Hinterstoder is stunning not only because of its reliable signage and orientation system, but also because of the 14 selected routes for every requirement.

While flower lovers can enjoy gentian, lady's slipper - a rare species of orchid - on their hike, others may find wildlife watching in their natural habitat an unforgettable experience.

Despite all their differences, all the hikes share certain common characteristics. On the one hand, they lead to the most beautiful spots along the way, and on the other hand, they always end exactly where they started.

Further interesting information can be found in a detailed hiking guide, which you can get in our hotel.

Enjoy unforgettable and breathtaking tours to the most beautiful places of the Kalkalpen National Park with the regional hiking specialists.

Whether a relaxed walk or a sporty climbing tour ...

A few selected hiking suggestions

People who enjoy magnificent views should visit the “Stoderer Weitblick” viewing platform. From there you have a magnificent panoramic view of the natural landscape and the surrounding Pyhrn-Priel mountains. A walk of 4.2 km, starting from the Almgasthof Baumschlagerberg in Vorderstoder, takes you in just over 1 hour to the “Stoderer Weitblick” viewing platform at the top of the Hut Mountain. From there you can enjoy a fantastic view stretching from the Stoder Valley to the Pyhrgas Mountain in Spital/Pyhrn.

You can look forward to exceptional views along the 18 km-long Stoder Valley panoramic tour. The starting point for the approximately 6.5-hour-long trip is the Kneipp facility in Hinterstoder. From here, your route leads you to the Poppen Mountain with the “Stoderblick” viewing platform, which offers unforgettable views over the valleys and the impressive massifs of the surrounding area. Your hike continues along soft trails through quiet forests and across green meadows surrounded by the fascinating mountain landscape to Vorderstoder. Afterwards you deserve a long break in one of the cosy taverns before you walk back or take the hiker’s taxi.

Those who want to go even higher should consider the Höss Alpine round-trip, which leads over rocky terrain to an altitude of 2,000 metres above sea level. For the first part you can take the mountain railway, which brings you to the starting point of the tour. The round trip takes about 1.5 hours. Along the way to the "Environment and Climate Change" panoramic platform, you can enjoy the view of the huge mountain massifs in the area. Your lungs will love the spicy-fresh mountain air and the scent of the varied flora along the way.

As for guests who like to discover our mountains in a sporty manner, the region also has a lot to offer. Both the Stoder Valley route, which leads to the 2,446-metre-high Spitzmauer Mountain, and the Bert-Rinesch-route, which brings you to the 2,514-metre-high Big Priel Mountain, not only require a good physical condition, but also a certain degree of mountaineering skills. Stunning views and the incomparably great feeling when you have made it to the top compensate you for all the strain.

In the Outdoor Camp Nature Sports you can get yourself fit for such a challenging tour. The attractive high ropes course, which is embedded in the fascinating nature, offers a variety of opportunities to feel the adrenaline rush. The balancing act in the lofty heights between the trees makes you think carefully about each step and also challenges you to keep relaxed when looking down to the ground. But always remember that safety comes first.
